A Train Station Platform Farewell
One of my greatest fears in a relationship is that of reaching a stasis. I have seen plenty of relationships where there is no challenge, no specialness, no affection. There’s no focus on why the relationship is important, it just carries on, day after day.
I think Phil and I have a great habit that helps our relationship resist stasis in the way we say goodbye. Every day, we part ways as though the moment we just shared was the sweetest either of us have ever experienced. It’s heartfelt and profoundly tender and I at least carry on with my day with little love wings on my feet. Our last moment together for the day is a special way that we thank each other for the time we’ve shared and through action, let the other person know how meaningful and fulfilling it was.
I always think of this photo when I think about the depth of feeling and significance underneath our goodbyes.
